How long does a roadworthy inspection take?

A roadworthy inspection usually takes around 2 hours. This does differ depending on the vehicle’s age, condition and how busy the workshop is. The inspection checks the main safety items that make the vehicle safe for public roads, including tyres, brakes, steering, suspension, lights, seatbelts, windows and other safety-related items as mandated by VicRoads.

How much does a roadworthy certificate cost?

Roadworthy inspection pricing can vary depending on the vehicle’s age, type and condition. We’ll explain the cost before starting, and if repairs are needed, we’ll let you know what’s required before any extra work is completed. Prices start from $295.

What happens if my vehicle fails?

If your vehicle does not pass the first inspection, you’ll be given a report showing what needs to be fixed. In Victoria, you have 14 days to repair the issues and return for a free re-check. If you take longer than 14 days, a new full inspection will be required.

How long is a roadworthy valid for in Victoria?

A roadworthy certificate in Victoria is current and usable for 30 days from the date it is issued. This means it must be used within that 30-day window for registration or transfer purposes. After that time a new certificate must be issued.
